You are about to enjoy a unique and enriching experience at Karibuni!
We will provide the necessary facilities and services to ensure your stay is as fulfilling as we know it can be. Our accommodation is equipped with amenities for your stay and our local staff are fully trained and happy to assist you whenever necessary. If you require any further information about your stay at Karibuni head to our Frequently Asked Questions page or contact us.
We offer a mix of small cottages that can sleep between 2 and 8 people in comfortable bunks or single beds. Options include two traditional Luo mud huts (accommodating families of 2 adults and 2 children) and one larger hut (sleeping up to 8 people comfortably). The two brick built cottages can sleep 2 to 4 people each. Camping space for larger groups may be made available upon request.
The cottages are connected to mains electricity, while solar panels ensure that lights and chargers work even in a power cut. Phones, laptops and cameras can be charged every few days with the mains and solar electricity available in all rooms.
We have showers with limited hot water. In the event of a power cut, our hospitality staff can also manually supply hot water for the showers, so never fear!
Although Karibuni doesn’t have a Wifi connection yet, modems are available within the compound for Internet access. Wifi hotspots are available in neighbouring villages and we also suggest purchasing a local SIM card from the bigger cities for Internet access on personal devices.
Mobile reception is very good, and most people can get both local and international signals.
The Karibuni Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, evening meals and supper. Fish is sourced from nearby Lake Victoria and all fresh fruit and vegetables locally grown.
A laundry service is available in Ndhiwa for a small fee, which serves as an additional income generator for the community.
Airport collection and drop off
We can arrange transfers on request through our trusted tour operator. Read more about getting to Karibuni.
Local travel and transport
We provide local transport (with a driver) by car, bus and motorbike, and you can get to local towns this way for just 50-450 Kenyan Shillings (10p-£3). We can also help you arrange car hire for longer tours to make sure you get the best value.
Tours, safaris and sightseeing
We are proud to offer guided day trips and multi-day safaris to take in local attractions (e.g. Kenya Wildlife Service Ruma National Park, Rusinga Island, Sori Beach and Homa Bay boat tours) and other locations throughout Kenya.
Culture sharing workshops
With such rich culture and traditions the Ndhiwa community is happy to share their knowledge with cooking, beading and weaving workshops in addition to special events and talks. Guests are also welcome to join Karibuni’s projects, including the girls’ football group, youth group and partner school visits.
A wide range of traditional crafts including jewellery, basketware and Luo artefacts made by the youth group and Karibuni women’s group are available for purchase at the cottages. These are perfect gifts and souvenirs to take home.
Our very own qualified beautician Winny is on site to offer a variety of beauty treatments for guests. Winny is a sponsored student and has been trained in beauty therapy in Nairobi with the support of Team Kenya.
